The Joyful Voice Community Choir is an inclusive and open organization. Anyone is welcome to join us – just bring your love of singing. No audition or prior choral experience is required.<\/p>\n

Our choir is truly a community organization. Its members are a representative cross-section of our diverse city. It is led by volunteers, sponsored by individual and business interests, performs both as a public service and to a broad audience, and supports those members of our community who need it the most.<\/p>\n

Come out and see us – or better yet, join us, and be part of a fun and dynamic collective – one that values music, enjoys laughter, and brings the spirit of song to our community.<\/b><\/p>\n

Joyful Voice in-person rehearsals take place on Monday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Our next session begins January 19, 2026 with concert nights on May 7th and 8th, 2026.  As always, we’ll be rehearsing and performing at St. Paul’s Anglican Church at Jervis and Pendrell.<\/p>\n

Man Li, Music Director<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

Man Li (he\/him) is a choral conductor and composer originally from Hong Kong and now based in Vancouver.  He studied choral conducting, music composition and voice in Hong Kong, and completed a Master of Music degree in choral conducting at the University of British Columbia.  His choral compositions have been performed around the world.  Man conducted numerous student choirs in Hong Kong and directed choirs at UBC during his graduate program.  He has conducted Vancouver-based community choirs to rave reviews of the choir members.  In addition to being the Music Director of Joyful Voice, Man is also the Artistic Director of the Amabilis Singers and a section lead for the Vancouver Bach Choir Symphonic Choir.  <\/i><\/span><\/span> Man is a proponent of good vocal health and strongly believes that the key to making music is to have fun.  His approach enhances the inclusive spirit of Joyful Voice, and the choristers appreciate his enthusiasm, gentle encouragement, and talent for improving the Choir\u2019s sound.   To learn more about Man, visit him at <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span>https:\/\/manlimusic.com<\/u><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\"\"Ricko Lee, Accompanist<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ricko (he\/him) has played the piano for more than 14 years and has received ABRSM\u2019s DipABRSM Distinction.  He has performed many times in student recitals and in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.  Ricko is a pianist for his church and teaches piano and music theory.  A versatile musician, he also plays violin and was a member of the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra.  Ricko is currently double majoring in Music and Music Education at the University of British Columbia.  His passion is to use music to influence others, and he is excited to be a part of the Joyful Voice community.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ayuki Ohno, Accompanist (on leave)<\/b><\/p>\n

Ayuki Ohno (he\/him) is a recent graduate of the University of British Columbia, earning the dual degrees of Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education.  He has 18 years of classical training on piano and teaches piano privately.  Ayuki enjoyed numerous opportunities to perform in recital and as an accompanist during his time at UBC.  He has also been the accompanist for a Burnaby choir and was a substitute accompanist for Joyful Voice last year.    <\/i><\/span><\/span>In addition to being an accomplished pianist, Ayuki, who has perfect pitch, has training in instrumental and choral conducting, is a baritone singer and plays the flute.  He is excited to apply his collaborative piano skills in a permanent role with Joyful Voice<\/span><\/span>.<\/i><\/p>\n
